To apply, you must have a sponsor (usually your employer) who has agreed to provide you with apprenticeship training. If you do not have a sponsor and want to learn more about apprenticeship training or get help finding a sponsor, please visit ontario.ca/apprenticeship, or contact your local Ontario apprenticeship office.

You must be at least 18 years old to submit an online Application for Apprenticeship Training. If you are between 16 and 18 years old, you can apply by filling out a paper application that you, your sponsor and a parent or guardian must sign and submit it to your local Ontario apprenticeship office.

Your sponsor must agree to register you as an apprentice before you can proceed with the registration process. Please ensure that your sponsor is willing to register you before returning to complete this online application.

How to submit your apprenticeship application

You must complete the application in one session. It takes about 10 minutes to complete.

Before you start, you need the following information:

Applicant
Social insurance number
Complete mailing address, including your postal code
Your telephone number(s) and email address
Start date of apprenticeship training with this sponsor
Number of regular working or training hours per week
Sponsor
Full legal business name of sponsor
Complete mailing address for your sponsor, including postal code
Sponsor telephone number
First and last name of the contact for your sponsor
Sponsor contact phone number and email address
Sponsor ID number*

*Sponsor ID number is optional. Including it will speed up the application process. If your sponsor has ever registered an apprentice, they will have an ID number issued by the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development (MAESD).

Proof of age, social insurance number (SIN) and education/training documentation

To apply for apprenticeship training in Ontario, you must have documented proof of age, SIN and education/training for the ministry to examine and verify.

Uploading proof documentation will result in faster processing of your application. Please note: all three documents must be uploaded in order to complete this option.

Please have your proof documentation ready for uploading. Only files with extension 'jpg', 'jpeg', 'pdf', 'png' can be uploaded and must not exceed 2 MB.

If you do not wish to upload your proof documentation, you must provide it to a local Ontario apprenticeship office.

One document from each category below must be provided.

Proof of age
  • Baptismal certificate
  • Birth certificate
  • Driver's licence
  • Passport (valid or expired)
  • Nexus card
  • Ontario / Canadian registration licence
  • Ontario photo card (new Ontario ID card)
  • Certificate of Canadian Citizenship or Naturalization (not commemorative issue)
  • Government of Canada certificate of Indian or Métis status
  • Current identity document issued by a Canadian government ministry or agency with a vigorous registration or security clearance process (OPP or RCMP security check)
Proof of SIN

  • Record of employment (ROE)
Proof of education/training
  • GED certificate - Canadian
  • GED certificate - foreign (accredited)
